Playwright Terell Alvin McCraney’s play – IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER – is part of a trilogy loosely based on West African myths called the Bro$199.00 ther/Sister Plays that involves characters living in a fictional part of Louisiana. Oya dreams of becoming a world class runner as a means of pulling herself out of the quicksand of her community. But, as a girl, she had to choose between her dreams and the reality of caring for her mother. As a woman, she’s torn between Ogun, the quietly devoted man she lives with, and the destructive passion offered by Shango, the man she can’t live without. McCraney has been gifted with “the beautiful music of a new voice.”
